…the blazer
A definitive wardrobe staple that we should not forget come sunnier months: just update it and opt for a lighter brighter version for the season ahead. A well-tailored blazer is guaranteed to make you feel put together in the most unpredictable weather (current -British Summertime!) or at an unexpected event. It is your one stop transformative piece.
Wear your blazer over a dress to add instant chic or throw over jeans/ trousers and a white top to smarten the look. The cut and length of your blazer is key; for a more relaxed feel go for an oversized/boxy style (size up if need be.) For a preppy stance opt for a more tailored, cinched in waist, creating an instant hourglass silhouette.
Personally, I prefer a slightly oversized, longer piece in beige or cream or white for summer – worn unbuttoned to keep the look relaxed and if it’s all looking a little too ‘formless’ I simply add a belt around it. The light-weight summer fabrics are more malleable then their winter counter-parts, so go ahead and experiment.
Wear it buttoned, belted or casually draped over your shoulders …your mood…your style…your look… I’ve put together some inspiration below.
I will be the first to admit I am all for a simple style when it comes to wear a blazer – well most things in life really. I love classic pieces that will last longer than a season and that can be used in different ways. The blazer is the perfect example of this – it is a style staple that will outlive any trend and last in your wardrobe for years to come.
My favourite way of wearing a blazer is teamed with jeans, trousers, heels and a blouse for work or for more casual days than with jeans, trainers and a t-shirt/top. These types of outfits are stylish classics and to keep them up to date and interesting I like to add interesting accessories such as statement earrings, a leopard print belt or killer shoes. If you have a job where you need to where more formal clothes, a blazer over a dress looks so smart and I absolutely adore the more trend-led colourful two piece sets.
